Colorado Water Watch Monitoring Site Selection

The Colorado Water Watch monitoring station sites are carefully chosen based on analyzing various criteria. Sophisticated multi-criteria spatial decision analysis (MCSDA) is conducted to verify the feasibility of the potential sites to suite this purpose. This involves the evaluation of alternatives based on a set of pre-defined criteria. The three main criteria considered to identify potential monitoring sites include:

In addition, one control site (located in complete absence of any oil and gas activity in proximity) is also chosen to monitor natural fluctuations in groundwater quality.
